                                          December 30th, 2006

Dear Sir,
I am one of your costumers staying in your hotel. I am planning to stay for a week from December 30th, 2007 to January 5th, 2007. So, today is my first day here. I stay in room no. 217. As I stay here, I don't find any convenience as started in your brochure. It is said that all rooms face to the beautiful view of Parangtritis. On the other hand, I get a room which views to the dumping area. It smells bad and very terrible.
I have always wanted to be your customer in my visit to Yogyakarta and I want to keep it forever if I get a good service from you. Otherwise, I would have to look for another hotel which gives good service.
I hope to hear from you very soon.
                                           Yours Faithfully,

                                            Yulia Mufarichah

Narrative Text

                                                              Why Do Hawks Hunt Chicks?

Orientation    ==>         Once upon a time, a hawk fell in love with a hen. The hawk flew down from the sky and asked the hen, "Will you marry me?".
Complication ==>         The hen loved the brave, strong hawk and wished to marry him. But she said, "I can't fly as high as you can. If you give me time, I may learn to fly as high as you. Then we can fly together."
Resolution    ==>           The hawk agreed. Before he went away, he gave the hen a ring. "This is to show  that you have promise to marry me," said the hawk.

Complication  ==>          It so happened that the hen already promised to marry a rooster. So, when the  rooster saw the ring, he became angry. "Throw that ring away at once!" shouted the rooster. The hen was so frightened at the rooster's anger that she threw away the ring immediately.
Resolution       ==>       When the hawk came a few months later, the hen told him the truth. The hawk was  so furious that he cursed the hen, "Why didn't you tell me earlier? Now, you'll always be scratching the earth, and I'll always be flying above to catch your children," said the hawk.

Conjunction (Kata Penghubung) => Grade XI Science and XI Social

We commonly join words, phrases and / or sentences together in a narrative. The words to join are called Conjunctions.

    e.g :
    • I seized  the cat, took a small knife out of my pocket and cut one of its eyes out.
    • I hung the poor creature until it was dead.
    • I soon began to dislike the cat because it often strared at me with a strange and hatted look.
    • After my wife had been buried in the wall, the police came to my house.
    Type of Conjunctions:
    1. Time => Examples: after, before, since, while, when, as
    2. Result => so, so that
    3. Contrast => although, though, even though, while
    4. Reason => as, because, in case, for
    5. Purpose => so that, in order that
    6. Manner => as, as if, as though

Read this text and answer the questions.

                                                                     An Unforgetable Night
One night in early fall of 1980, I was driving home alone in my 1978 Fort Pinto. Something told me that I shouldn't have passed the highway. But John, my best friend said that this was the fastest way to get to my house.
A few minutes ago it started raining hard, and now the shower was coming down. The highway was so dark that I could barely see my way. all of sudden there was a white shadow. It appeared  so suddenly that I could not stop my car and hit the shadow.
    1.  When and where did the story happen?
    2. What is the purpose of the writer telling the story?
    3. Where did the writer see the white shadow?

Pay attention to the bold words below!
    •  One night in early fall in 1980, I was driving home alone.
                           time                                                     place   manner
    • At noon, the office will close for a lunch break.
    • Steve gets hay fever very badly in the fall.
                                                manner      time
    •  On May 26, 1981, Allison Harley was born in Caracas.

The arragement of adverbs commonly used in Manner, Place, Time. However, the arragement may change into Place, Manner, Time if the sentence uses verbs like: go, leave, come, run, etc.
In writing a narrative story, the writer can change the position according to his /her mood like the examples given above. What's the purpose? The purpose is to arouse the reader's or listener's interest to know what will happen next. The adverb mentioned in the beginning of a sentence holds the main point.

                                                                                                                                           1st April 2009

                   Dear Evi and Andi,
Just a note to let you know that we had a wonderful holiday in Bali. it was really a great place. The people are friendly, the food is great, and the weather was a lot better than at home. Can you believe it?
Most days were pretty lazy. I swam two or three times a day, but my brother Fachri just spent allhis time lying on the beach with his eyes closed.
Last Saturday, I got on the bus and went to the north end of the island. It was quieter there than here-very beautiful but no tourist. The next day, we went across to the east coast. We saw some of the old village.
I learned Balinese-I still can't say much, but it was fun to try. Fachri actually spoke it quitewell, but he was afraid to open his mouth, so  I was the one who talked to people.
Love to your parents. See you soon, I hope.

    Best wishes,
